VOCATIONAL TRAINING OF THE UK BORDER FORCE EMPLOYEES

Abstract

The article reveals the specifics of the vocational training of the UK Border Force employees, describes the requirements that it poses for the personal qualities of officers. This refers to such personal characteristics as emotional stability, devotion, discipline and respect for people, capacity for team work. The vocational training of the UK Border Force employees, which is considered one of the most effective in the world, is aimed at creating the highest standards of professional competence and teamwork among employees, compliance with its basic values. For the training of border guard officers is provided a multi-stage program which takes into account professional requirements, including regarding the speed of work. Vocational training, among other things, concerns the use of reasonable power, the provision of «moral leadership». The main attention during the training of staff here is focused on improving the efficiency of their professional activities and interpersonal interaction, leadership and teamwork skills, developing communication abilities and working with information. It has been found that during the vocational training a great importance is attached to the development of the communication skills of the border guard officer. Communication skills are considered as tactical ways to establish and maintain control over the situation. At this level, personnel is trained to manage conflicts and apply tactical communication skills. During the training, the staff also learns to give an interview and receive testimony from a third party. Special attention is paid to the ability of employees to provide complete and accurate information regarding a certain event (incident).
