Abstract
The article reveals the actual problem of spiritual formation of the future music teacher's personality. Its importance is connected with the urgent need to revive the spiritual values of modern youth, as well as the moral and spiritual life of society. The authors trace the genesis of philosophical thought about the spiritual essence of man from prehistoric times to the present day. The concept of «spirituality» is interpreted by the authors as an individual expression of the personality in the system of its motives – knowledge of the world and the social need to live and act for others. The authors consider the spiritual formation of a personality as a complex and multifaceted process of personal development; self-actualization and selfrealization. The spiritual development of a future music teacher is interpreted in the article as a process of involving him/her in the moral and spiritual criteria developed by mankind, forming a value attitude towards society and oneself, and establishing socially significant norms and rules of behavior. In this process, music education and upbringing play an important role. Music as an art form is a reflection of social consciousness. Revealing the world of human feelings in the harmony of sounds, it does not only give aesthetic pleasure, but also affirms certain views on life, morality, spirituality, and the beauty of life. Considering musical art as a means of forming aesthetic values and life ideals, the authors theoretically substantiate the spiritual regulators of the pedagogical activity of a future music teacher. The low cultural level of a significant part of young people and the decline in moral criteria cause an urgent need to humanize education through the revival of spiritual values. It is the higher education institution that should become a center of culture and a spiritual mentor for students. In the system of spiritual education of modern youth, one of the most important places belongs to classical music. Fertile material for the spiritual formation of young people is Ukrainian folk music, through which we learn the culture, mentality, moral, and spiritual values of Ukrainians.
