PROFESSIONAL VALUES OF SOCIAL WORK FROM THE POSITION OF SOCIO-CULTURAL APPROACH

Abstract

The article is devoted to the problem of studying the professional values of social work from the standpoint of sociocultural approach. The relevance of the study is determined by the need to rethink the professional values of social work and its modernization in accordance with changing socio-cultural conditions. The study examines the experience of professional social work institutions: the British Social Workers 'Association and the US National Social Workers’ Association, which argue that social work is based on a set of values and that competent social workers must be able to act on these values. It was found that the process of formation of social work in Ukraine will deepen under the influence of social demands of the era and its own development, and that at the moment its understanding has moved away from traditional charity or the state system of social security institutions. There are groups of values of social work in the socio-cultural context: values of altruistic nature, which reflect the specifics of the professional activity of a social worker – helping others who need your support, helping a vulnerable person; values of ethical responsibility to the profession – a social worker protects the dignity and integrity of the profession, adheres to and multiplies ethical principles, norms, knowledge and mission of social work, which, like other fields of knowledge, is in constant development and enrichment, etc .; values associated with the needs of self-realization, self-affirmation and self-improvement of the personality of the social worker and the achievement of professionalism. It is determined that the system of socio-cultural values of social workers can be represented by values of different levels: meaningful life, universal, particular, collectivist and professional values.
